What is ARMA Sandbox

The ARMA Sandbox is a tool that helps to understand and to validate the contents of EDM records for medieval manuscripts. It uses the general EDM Schema (XSD) rules and the ARMA Guidelines to generate:

  • errors for the essential issues
  • warnings for the less severe issues found

Also, the Sandbox displays suggestion for each reported issue including the official ARMA Guidelines documentation for the particular properties in the report.

The Sandbox consists of the following applications:

  • the Single file validator (users can upload their own single files and small batches and get validation reports in real time)
  • the Catalog (CHIs can aggregate and validate their collection in large scale batches and the other users can search the content and learn to understand the good and bad practices)
  • the Simple IIIF browser (still under development - allows to open and check IIIF manifest of medieval document)

Why a beta?

The ARMA Sandbox is published in an open beta testing mode. It already incorporates all the important validation routines and has been internally tested with records provided by some of the ARMA project partners.

However, should you experience any issue with the application, we will be happy if you let us know so that we can fix it!
