The purpose of the Single File Validator

The Single File Validator is a simple tool designed to help the content creators in early stage of preparation of EDM ARMA Specification compliant records.

It allows users to upload a single EDM XML file or a batch of up to 50 EDM XML files in one ZIP archive and for each file it performs checks for all the ARMA specification categories and generates a report.

How to use the Single File Validator

To use the tool, go to http://staging.arma.manuscriptorium.com, click the upper left navigation icon and select the Single File Validator app in the menu.

The tool is very simple. In the form you can choose from a number of report formats - the most important one is the preselected ARMA specs validation which reports the issues detected in your XML EDM file. Furthermore, there are reports available on usage of the four main classes.

Upload form

For the validation purposes let’s select the ARMA specs validation and choose a file in your computer to be uploaded.

The results will differ slightly when you upload single XML file from a report on batch of files.

Single XML file validation will provide the report directly.

Single file validation results

Report for multiple files in a ZIP file will start with a list of validated files.

Batch of files validation results

Within the validation report you will see the summary of issues found (if any) classified acordingly to the ARMA specification into the following sections:

  • Validation against XSD
  • Essential schema compliance
  • ARMA necessary
  • ARMA strongly recommended
  • ARMA nice to have

If there are any errors (red triangle) or warnings (orange bubble) in a particular section, you can click the section name and see additional information. The ARMA Sandbox not only reports the issue but also provides all the available information on the proper use of that particular property. A click on an issue reveals all the available information.
